Derby Polo 2011

Brittany Polo Club in La Baule hosts the 21st edition of renowned international Polo tournament, Derby Polo, from July 21st to the August 15th 2011.

"Derby Polo Tente d'Argent” will be played from July 21st till 31st, while "Derby Polo Tente d'Or” will occur from August 4th till August 15th.

La Baule is one of the 3 privileged cities along with Deauville and Saint-Tropez to have the honor of hosting an extraordinary polo event accessible to public. This manifestation will gather European top players among patrons on the grounds of Brittany Polo Club, nested in Guérande Salt marshes. With its 30 hectares 3 full sized fields, a practice and a winter arena, Brittany Polo Club is considered as one of the most beautiful and largest European Polo clubs.

Led by Jean François Decaux, public is welcome all year long and of course during the summer tournaments to come and enjoy polo games free of charge, with the traditional divot stomping at half time!!!

The Polo game

Basic rules are required to enjoy a polo game. Played on grass, on a field of 300
yards of length and 160 yards of width (6 football fields), with goalposts of 8 yards apart,
2 teams, each one with 4 players, compete to score the most goals by hitting the ball
through the goal. A game is divided in 4 periods of play, known as chukkas, of 7 minutes
30 sec of time. There is a 3 minutes break during which players change mounts.
Rules are somewhat subtle, so the referees have an important role. Players must hit
the wooden ball with a mallet in their right hand while his opponents will try to ride him
off his line of the ball.

Horses, gallop, ride offs participate to give spectators an extraordinary and entertaining
experience.

 

Luxury settles at Brittany Polo Club

West Marketing, a partner event company, will host the first Luxury Fair of the
area. We are pleasured to greet several advertisers such as famous clothing brands
Vicomte A., JB La Baule and car dealers Audi and Ferrari, who will display products at
the village, while allowing visitors to make purchases in discreet and pleasant place.

It is an ideal opportunity to combine discovering polo and our partners new
products. Champagne Pommery will provide with light catering and drinks on site.
