Argentario Polo Club, Monte Argentario, Tuscany
We have the pleasure to show you here some information and photos about our club and our last polo season.
The Argentario Polo Club is located in Tuscany at Monte Argentario, one of the most beautiful seaside resorts in Italy, with a coastline characterized by rocky beaches of extraordinary beauty.
The Club is in an exceptional position, the polo fields and stables are located in the typical Maremma landscape, with splendid sea views, bordering the new 18 hole golf course.
From its inception, in 1987, at the Argentario Polo Club some of the best Italian polo matches have been played, making it a centre of sporting excellence; many great polo players have passed by: Gonzalo and Horacito Heguy, Alejandro (Piki) Diaz Alberti, antiago Araya, David Sterling, Juan Martin Nero, Juan JosBran Agustin Garcia Grossi, Alfio Marchini and BartolomCastagnola.
The passion for this sport and the good maintenance of this polo field, recognized as one of the best in Europe, have made the Argentario Polo Club the place of reference for Italian polo, recently the sporting organization can boast various Italian and European records: the 1st edition of the Ladies Polo Cup, the first women's polo tournament to be played in Italy, (the 2nd edition Pellicano Ladies Cup 2010, 22-25 July, was sponsored by one of the best Relais & Chateaux hotels in the world, Il Pellicano Hotel), was the first in Italy to organize junior tournament (10-15 year old) and also the first in Europe to have organized an 18 hp tournament at night (on occasion of the XX? anniversary of the Club 2007) every year for the Coppa Italia F.I.S.E. and the Summer Cup there is an Italian record of enrollment teams, second only to Sotogrande.
The white polo ball started to race on the Club fields in the 2010 season with the spring tournament, the Silver Cup, the event that every year initiates the high level tournaments (hp 10-15) in Italy. But it is between July and August that the Argentario becomes the host of polo with a succession of events of great sporting and social importance. Since last year the real point of excellence is the Ladies Tournament, (the women's tournaments are having a big success in the world), the Argentario Polo Club wanted to promote this initiative also in our country, which does not lack women players.
The great success received in the first edition of the Ladies Cup has made it possible for this second edition to enter the WCT (women's championship tournament), the most famous women tournaments in the world. Also for this second edition, The Hotel Pellicano, one of the most famous in the world, has united its name to this exceptional event. The Pellicano Hotel and Argentario Polo Club have a partnership since the beginning: both are symbols of excellence in their fields and their presence and
activities on the territory give value to a destination that is already famous. Roberto Sci honored to give the prizes, comments as follows: ? am happy that the Ladies Cup has reached its 2nd edition and that it is becoming more famous nationally and internationally. This year we decided to support the Ladies tournament as it is the first and only one organized in Italy and I have big admiration for the pioneering women that launch themselves towards a historically male sport. It is an honor for the Pellicano to support the Argentario Polo Club and polo, a sport of great tradition that attracts to Monte Argentario people that appreciate beauty, bien vivre and the nature of this old land. On the week end of the 21-25 July the public applauded La Mimosa-Green Season Polo Team that won the Pellicano Ladies Cup 2010. The team's captain Stefania Annunziata won as well the title of Italian Champions 2010 held during the same week end.
After toasting with the amazons coming from all parts of the world and the Italian champions with the excellent wines by the best producers of Tuscany's Maremma, the numerous guests of the Club assisted the III edition of the Coppa Italia F.I.S.E. (Italian Federation of Equestrian Sports) and of the historical Summer Cup.
The summer of Italian polo ended with the most spectacular performances of the best teams of our country, the 200 horses staying at the Club thrilled the numerous and passionate spectators. The sporting and elegant environment gives to this corner of Maremma an amazing atmosphere of English-South American style.
